homework the first: COMPARISON OF THE PAPERS

The broadsheet and the tabloid, the 2 main types of news paper the most notable difference is the size as broadsheets are broad and tabloids are handheld. Going deeper a tabloid paper consists of a mast head on the top with minimal colour usually just 1 and a couple headlines and lots of text.  This one in particular follows all the conventions of a tabloid, it has lots of text, the layout is structured and elements aren't  fighting for attention it's civilised. If you look at the headlines you'll see that the news is serious (or hard) which is also common of broadsheets.  going even deeper into they utilise a serif letter form showing the serious nature of the paper and it's stories. All of this is because the TA of a broadsheet being middle market or higher class and educated their for they have more sophisticated interests and don't need to be attracted by fancy words and colours.   And here we have a tabloid. We can see this as the basketball player has blue smoke coming off of him which gives the affect that he is super powered this is because blue has a connotation with magic and the smoke is reminiscent of how magic is represented in the media, specifically video games, as it tends to give off a mystical shroud. This specific connotation would appeal to the main target audience for the ad, which is teen age boys, Discernible from the bright blue colour pallet and that basketball and basketball players are common topics discussed among teenage boys. This superpowered idea will attract people to buy the product as they think that they can be like their idols this the aid of this drink.  Media language  used in the ad represents Basketball as a sport for men only.   The old spice ad uses media language to invoke feelings of surrealism. One way this is done is through the mise-en-sene, where in the ad there are many different things going on, for example there is a man fishing up a shark. This is makes the ad surreal as fishing  a shark is something so extreme and wild that you would only expect it in a cartoon. When the audience see something like this on an old spice ad they won't be drawn in by the fishing because they like fishing, they are drawn in because of how non-sensical it is. This then represents old spice as 'cool' as they will be known by there audience for the wild and outrageous branding,  which is quite un-common for men's grooming brands as most try to appeal to their audience by coming across as sophisticated and professional.   The scene in reference I am going to analyse this scene because it has a lot to talk about Firstly, The Mise-en-sene of the trenchbull's outfit.  Her outfit in many ways is supposed to connote fear. The jacket and tie get-up gives the idea of a solider outfit, soliders connote war, fighting, fear(of an enemy. and it seems far in my opinion i think it's supposed to compare her to the SS. All these negative connotations tells the audience as soon as she is on screen that she is evil and heartless. second, Camerawork  they do some interesting things with camerawork in this scene. I shall provide 🌠 screenshots🌠 They want you to be scared and repulsed in this scene I know because of this extreme close up. The use of an extreme close up here makes you feel uncomfortable like she is invading your personal space.  “The products constructed to market James Bond Films are designed to offer a clear appeal to a wide global audience of young males aged 17-35” Discuss. James Bond promotional products do offer a clear Appeal  to young males. We can see this when looking at the posters made for the films, 2 of my examples features half naked women next to the protagonist, this would appeal to a young male audience because the majority would be interested in women All the posters show bond holding a silenced gun which invokes thoughts of spy’s, action and an altercation. These would all appeal to a young male audience as they would find the world of espionage exiting. The newer posters don’t market to that specific audience as much but still do in some aspects. No time to die has a woman in a revealing dress but also has a woman in what seems to be in a military outfit which the combat side could appeal to young males but more likely to appeal a female audience due to the ‘cool’ representations

 How does black panther depict different racial representations? In black panther black people  are represented as  being culturally smarter than white people, we  can see this in the museum scene where the 'expert' is explaining the history to the black man, he then corrects her and then talks about the crimes white colonists, this paints  the woman/her (not her literally) and her history in a negative light which we can  then apply the theory of Levi Strauss, specifically binary opposites where one idea only exist because of another, here the bad look of white ancestors only exist due to the things that happened to black ancestors.
